We are an educational resource that aims to raise awareness around the visual representation of animals in culture and the ethical responsibilities of the image makers to the animals whose likenesses they use. Becoming Beings explores why we think about animals the way we do in context of visual culture and the human-animal relationship, so often detrimental to the animal. We offer conversation and guidelines about thinking with and working with images of animals. There are guides to representing animals in better ways and reviews of illustrated works and books that we consider the very best of animal illustration for animals.
